In 2006, AmSouth Bancorporation announced it would merge with Regions Financial Corporation. The merger affected AmSouth branches in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Virginia. To assist with the merger, Regions Bank selected Heery to manage the consolidation of facilities.
Heery oversaw all mission critical and high-risk buildings during the consolidation and restack/renovation of operations for the Regions/AmSouth merger. Heery oversaw six architects, seven general contractors and numerous consultants on over 140 separate projects during the two-and-a-half year, $163 million merger program.
The consolidation was part of an overall cost savings plan that lowered operating expenses by reducing the footprint by two million square feet. The six-state consolidation was performed without the loss of a single bank operating day.
Consolidation activities were conducted over six southeastern states, 18 cities, and moved an estimated 10,100 people from 85 buildings into 21 buildings over an 18-month period
