The partial replacement and historic renovation of Charles H. Milby High School was included in HISD’s 2012 Bond Program to provide a 21st Century Campus that maintained the historic façade of one of Houston’s oldest high schools. CBRE | Heery worked hand in hand with the local community to assure their new school was planned, designed and constructed to not only meet their vision and educational needs, but to also be a fixture in the community; one the students, staff and community will use for decades to come.
The historic building now contains Student Dining, Administrative space, meeting space for students, extended learning areas, and the JROTC program in a space that was previously used as the basement pool. The new structure includes learning center, science and wet labs, CTE workshops, a modern performing arts area complete with a black box theatre, scene workshops, choir and band halls, and an athletics wing that includes competition and auxiliary gymnasiums. In keeping with the 21st century design, abundant natural light can be found throughout the campus. The project was officially certified LEED Silver earlier this week.
