Cobb County SUNTRUST PARK

Originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympics, the existing stadium was partially reconstructed as a baseball-only stadium and needed $350 million in renovations-$150 million for structural upkeep and $200 million to improve the fan experience. Because capital maintenance at the existing stadium would be more costly than building a new stadium, plans for a new stadium were developed.

Heery provided owner representation services to Cobb County Government for the new Atlanta Braves Baseball stadium, SunTrust Park. The baseball park serves as the new home of the Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball, located in the Cumberland area of Cobb County, Georgia, northwest of Atlanta.

SunTrust Park was designed with the fans in mind. With 41,000 seats, the more intimate configuration maximizes sightlines and elevations, placing a higher percentage of seats closer to the field than any other ballpark in Major League Baseball. A 90-foot sunscreen—three times the size of the current sunscreen at Turner Field—and air conditioning on every level ensures cool temperatures for fans on hot summer days. The plaza serves as a grand central gathering space for fans, families, residents and visitors, and as a hub of activity, with new and fresh events throughout the year.
