Wake County Public Schools - Long-Range Building Program
Raleigh, North Carolina
Wake County Public Schools has experienced unprecedented growth in the number of students entering the system and staying throughout their primary and secondary education. The school system has grown from just under 60,000 students in 1985 to a current enrollment of just over 100,000 to a projected enrollment of 130,000 by the year 2010. At the same time that it juggles the growth, the system is also managing numerous projects at existing facilities that result from aging buildings and new federal and state programs that schools are required to house.
Over the past 20+ years, Heery International has served as part of the Wake County Public School System’s building team, delivering a total of 49 new schools, 120 addition/renovation projects and 89 building system replacements and upgrades. Heery’s services for Wake County Public Schools have ranged from providing full program management with all Heery staff working on projects to overseeing only project controls. Heery has provided training for Wake County Public Schools project managers teaching proper project supervision, while working in a hybrid arrangement with school and Heery staff working side by side.
In support of the PLAN 2000 Building Program, Heery continued to provide select program management services including the preparation of detailed cost estimates, cash flow projections, and assisting school system staff in determining the scope of work for the construction program. PLAN 2000 included $500 million in school bonds allocated to build 14 new schools and renovate or expand 96 existing schools.
Currently Heery is providing construction management at risk services in joint venture on two projects: East Wake High School Renovation Phases I & II in Wendell, North Carolina and Heritage High School in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
