University of Maryland, Baltimore County - Information Technology/Engineering Building (ITE) and Public Policy Building
Catonsville, Maryland
Recognized for its focus on science and engineering in undergraduate and graduate education, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County seeks to be one of the leading public research universities of its size in the country. Significant campus enhancements were necessary to support this vision. Heery managed the construction of two projects which were central to the University’s mission for science and engineering excellence - the Information Technology / Engineering Building (ITE) and the Public Policy Building.
The new ITE building completed the build-out of the west campus academic block and is located in a prominent location with easy visibility from the main campus approach. This $37 million, 138,000 SF building creates a marker for the campus that is desirable for welcoming corporate and community leaders to the campus.
The new public policy building met the need to expand the university’s various public policy departments, many of which were operating in temporary trailers. This $18.7 million, 60,000 SF building consolidated the university’s public policy curriculum into one building. The building houses six departments including the Shriver Center, sociology and anthropology, economics and political science. The building also houses the Maryland Institute for Policy Analysis and Research.
Heery was hired to provide project management during all phases of design, construction and move-in for both buildings. Heery managed the contractors under a guaranteed maximum price format. Heery’s value analysis of the projects saved the client more than $800,000.
