UCLA - Northwest Campus - Student Housing Project

Los Angeles, California

Heery was selected as construction manager for this in-fill construction project to add a range of 2,000 to 2,400 beds to the northwest quadrant of the UCLA campus.  This multiple-prime, multi-phased project, which had to be realized within the setting of all ongoing campus operations and their associated issues, included four construction sites for a total of 536,000 GSF of new construction. The project scope included the construction of housing sites for students, including Hedrick North, Rieber North and Rieber West, plus the related site work and infrastructure required for a project of this nature.  Other scope included construction renovation of the 1st floors of existing Hedrick Hall, Rieber Hall and Sproul Hall high-rise residences.

Heery worked closely with UCLA to develop meticulous, multi-phased project schedules that reflected complex site logistics and other considerations.  All work was carefully phased in order to minimize construction impacts on surrounding areas.  Heery’s utilization of the multiple-prime contractor approach in conjunction with the phasing of the work significantly helped in conserving university funds by delivering a strong pool of contractors and aggressive bidding competition at any given time over the life of the project.
