The Ohio State University - Woody Hayes Athletic Center
Columbus, Ohio
The Ohio State University has a long and proud tradition of winning athletic teams, from football to tennis. Part of that tradition includes excellent training facilities. When The Ohio State University decided to renovate and expand its existing football team facility, know as The Woody Hayes Athletic Center, the Buckeyes turned to Heery International.
As a dynasty in the Division 1A football tradition, the Buckeyes needed more than just better locker rooms—they demanded signature features that would set their facilities apart for recruiting. Standout elements include a new entry lobby highlighting Ohio State’s football tradition, which potential recruits will pass through en-route to the second-story player’s lounge that overlooks the strength training space. The centerpiece of the lobby is a lighted “championship wall” that celebrates The Buckeyes’ national championships and winning tradition. The project also includes enhancing and expanding training and meeting spaces, adding an underwater training track and hydrotherapy pool and creating new coaches offices and meeting rooms.
One of the key program requirements was to separate the coaches and players from the public. Heery addressed that security issue by creating a secure parking lot with a separate player entrance. Fans are welcome, but only to the well lit, architecturally appealing lobby.
