Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital
Baltimore, Maryland
Consistently ranked as one of the country’s top 10 psychiatric facilities by U.S. News and World Report, and the largest mental health care provider in the State of Maryland, the Sheppard Pratt Health System tapped Heery International to serve as project manager for its $91.6 million renovation and expansion program. The program included a complete renovation of the historic 1891 facility and a 192-bed clinical addition. The completed facility now includes 200 inpatient beds, 50 residential beds, multiple day hospitals and other outpatient services, 195,000 SF of parking and new administrative space.
Heery provided full construction program management services from pre-design through post-construction. The firm assisted with the development of the Certificate of Need application process and with a nationwide search, which resulted in the selection of internationally renowned design architect Robert Stern in association with architect-of-record and healthcare specialist HDR. Heery developed and tracked the total project budget, master schedule and guided Sheppard Pratt through the design process by performing cost estimates and design reviews. Heery orchestrated the bidding process for the general construction, which was divided into several scopes of work: the new addition project and various renovation projects.
During construction, Heery was Sheppard-Pratt’s eyes and ears on site, observing the progress of the work and managing owner-directed changes and those due to field conditions. Heery managed multiple design architects on the renovation projects and coordinated scheduling and design standards among the projects. The total program was completed to a “100-year” quality standard.
