Shaw Pavilion Cancer Center - Harold and Mary Louise Shaw Regional Cancer Center

Edwards, Colorado

The Shaw Pavilion and the Harold and Mary Louise Shaw Regional Cancer Center are located at the Edwards Medical Center.  Heery was retained to design this 60,000 SF outpatient facility, which includes an 11,000 SF cancer center, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, physician offices, and dining and conference facilities.  The Shaw Cancer Center provides comprehensive cancer care, including radiation therapy, infusion and cancer screening to the residents of Eagle County, as well as the five surrounding counties, who otherwise must travel great distances to receive this care.  The center also serves as an educational and social support resource for patients and families learning to live with cancer.

Vail Valley Medial Center owns this 8.3-acre site, which was master planned and approved as a Planned Unit Development (PUD) for a combined use of medical services and employee housing.  Initial planning of the Shaw Pavilion building revealed that the master plan was no longer appropriate for the goals of this campus.  Co-location of medical and residential buildings did not provide the best use of available land, and the original master plan did not afford adequate parking for medical occupancies.

Heery embarked on a study to determine how the site might be organized to provide an efficient building and parking layout.  The result was a master plan that created a clearly-defined site organization that separates medical and residential functions and provides adequate parking and appropriate site circulation.
