Seattle Public Schools - Building Excellence Programs I, II & III

Heery has consistently worked with the Seattle Public Schools since 1993 on nearly $1 billion in construction providing pre-bond, program and project management, estimating, scheduling, management information systems, community outreach, equipment planning and move management for three major capital programs and an Accelerated Technology Improvement Program.

Highlights of this relationship include:

  • In 1993 Heery began assisting the District with the evaluation of their first capital bond program resulting in the development of the entire policy and procedures program for Building Excellence Program (BEX) over the next 10 years, as well as ADA remediation services at 61 schools under a separate contract.
  • BEX I involved 20 projects included:  one elementary school renovation and addition, three replacement elementary schools, eight historic elementary school renovations, two elementary school additions, one new high school replacement, one new K-8 school, one historic K-8 renovation, one historic high school renovation, one high school performing arts center and renovation of a school being used as an interim site
  • BEX II involved 12 projects three historic high school renovations, one middle school historic renovation, one replacement elementary school, one replacement middle school, one high school performing arts center and five elementary school additions.
  • BEX III involves a new middle school and renovated high school on a shared campus, and a high school renovation.
  • GC/CM Delivery Seattle Public Schools is one of the first districts in the state to use GC/CM delivery. Heery  assisted with four high school GC/CM pilot-projects in BEX II and are managing the process for both projects in BEX III.
  • ATIP – In an effort funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Heery provided construction management services for technology upgrades to 50 schools in the district over two years.
