Regions Bank (formerly AmSouth Bank) - Riverchase Operations Center
Birmingham, Alabama
AmSouth Bank, the pre-merger predecessor of Regions Bank, wanted to replace and consolidate its 25-year-old Birmingham operations housed in leased facilities located throughout the city. Bringing together 1,800 employees and multiple departments in a state-of-the-art center would improve efficiency of its check cashing operation and the reliability of its mission critical engineering systems infrastructure. The expanded space would also allow the bank to grow. The goal was to provide a pleasant, productive work environment, while meeting the rigorous durability standards required for a 365-days-a-year, 24-hour-a-day business operation. Located on a 49-acre campus, the new $130 million Birmingham center houses check processing, data center, mail center, deposit operations, IT business systems, enterprise server operations, lockbox services, consumer loan operations, branch technology and electronic banking.
Heery was retained as construction program manager to oversee all aspects of the project and successfully delivered the project three months before the originally projected date. Heery’s other projects for this client have included the Pensacola Call Center, the Tampa Check Processing Center, the Orlando Proof Center, the Birmingham Headquarters central plant replacement and several assignments as a result of the facility implications of the Regions-AmSouth merger. When AmSouth Bank merged with Regions Bank in 2006, the operations center was easily reconfigured to support the needs of the new organization.
In addition to serving as program manager and handling the day-to-day management of the design and construction of the center, Heery also managed the commissioning of the HVAC, electrical and life safety systems.
