Northern Virginia Community College

Heery is providing staff augmentation on an indefinite quantity basis for project management of construction projects at the largest institution of higher learning in Virginia.  The program involves new building construction, renovations and alterations of classrooms, training areas, laboratories and administrative space projects at Northern Virginia Community College’s (NVCC) six campuses. The system totals 60 buildings with approximately 1.5 million SF.

Heery has three full-time project managers on-site and will augment with additional project managers and support staff as needed. To date, Heery has managed projects for the Alexandria, Annandale, Loudon, Manassas, Medical Education (Springfield) and Woodbridge campuses, including window replacements, lighting upgrades, landscaping, roof replacements, HVAC upgrades, laboratory renovations, structural repairs, office and classroom renovations, academic building expansions and cafeteria upgrades.

Heery staff report directly to the NVCC Director of Facilities Planning and Support Services.  Heery’s services thus far have included A/E selection, development of statement of work requirements, fee negotiation, design management and review, contract assistance, bidding, scheduling, inspection management, change order review and close-out services.  Heery is also involved in the development of short and long term plans for NVCC, including yearly project request plans and six-year capital projects request updates. Involvement includes defining scope of projects, scheduling and cost estimating.  Heery also has taken part in recent real estate transactions, including the purchase of additional land for the Woodbridge campus, and the creation of the Arlington and Reston Centers.
