Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport

New Orleans, Louisiana

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is no stranger to capacity crowds.  During peak tourist season, it has easily accommodated up to 18,000 travelers in a single day.  To ensure travel ease and safety, the New Orleans Aviation Board decided the time was right to undertake a comprehensive $64 million East-West runway rehabilitation project.  Heery International was assigned the intensive task of performing construction inspections throughout the renovation process.

The project, completed 10-weeks ahead of schedule and just three days before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in the fall of 2005, included a runway rehabilitation that was critical to helping the airport function in Katrina’s aftermath.  The city of New Orleans recognized Heery’s important contribution, noting that the airport would have been far less capable of supporting evacuation and recovery efforts without the early completion of the runway rehabilitation.  Engineering News-Record, the premier magazine of the civil engineering industry, recognized this project with its Award of Excellence, as one of its 25 Newsmakers of 2005

Currently, Heery is once again involved at LANOIA.  As part of the joint venture team Aviation Resources Team (ART), Heery is providing program management services for ongoing projects that include concourse and terminal renovations and rehabilitations, as well as airside/landside improvements such as a new security operations center, apron improvements, and other expansions and upgrades.  Our previous experience gives Heery a clear understanding of the challenges involved in working at the airport while it is in full operation.  Other members of the ART joint venture include Airware, IMDC, Inc., and Kutchins & Groh.
