National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) - Southeast Regional Archives
Morrow, Georgia
Heery provided construction phase building commissioning services for the new $28 million Southeast Regional Archives building, a project for which Heery was also the construction program manager. The 114,600 SF facility, constructed in partnership with the State of Georgia, offers improved records access and expanded public program areas, such as a visitor learning and welcome center, while providing 230,000 cubic feet of storage space. The building is part of a 19-acre archives complex, the first of its kind in the country.
The structured, documented commissioning process of verification and testing, which included review of design documents, submittals and contractor test reports, confirmed that the facility met NARA objectives. Heery provided periodic field visits to verify the completion of the work and conformance with the design documents and maintained checklists confirming compliance. Heery directed tests of all HVAC systems and emergency power systems once they were installed to substantiate proper performance and delivered a report of all activities and results. Heery was also responsible for verifying seasonal testing at the season opposite that of initial occupancy (January 2005). Heery reviewed the contractor’s training plan and was responsible for videotaping training and indoor air quality testing approximately two months after occupancy.
Heery commissioned the following systems on this project:
- Chilled Water System (Water cooled)Plant
- Heating Hot Water Boilers
- Archives Storage Spaces with +/- 2° +/=%% RH
- Cold Storage (35° / 35%)
- Constant and Variable Air Handling Systems
