Nashville-Davidson County Library Building Program

Nashville, Tennessee

In the fall of 1997, the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA), serving Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee, commissioned Heery to provide program management services for its $117 million Nashville Library Building Program, the tax-supported building program of the public library of Nashville and Davidson County. Heery worked hard to get the library facilities built to a standard that would meet the community’s needs for years to come. The schedule for this program was aggressive, requiring design and construction of all new and renovated facilities within three years.

The highlight of the program is an $81 million, 300,000 SF main library in downtown Nashville, which was designed by Robert A.M.Stern Architects of New York and Hart Freeland Roberts of Brentwood Tennessee, after a nationwide design competition. The winning design combines an urban architectural landmark with state-of-the-art educational and cultural resource, as well as providing a showcase for public art.In addition to a new main branch library, the library building program included five new branch libraries and three renovated facilities.
