Melissa Memorial Hospital
Holyoke, Colorado
Melissa Memorial Hospital, located in Holyoke, Colorado, has operated in a one-story facility with a full basement since it opened in 1965. In 2000, Melissa Memorial Hospital became licensed as a Critical Access Hospital, and in 2005, Heery was hired to design a new replacement hospital.
The replacement Melissa Memorial Hospital was designed as a 49,500 SF, one-story facility. The hospital is a 14-bed (10 private rooms and two double occupancy rooms) critical access hospital providing for 24-hour emergency care and laboratory, imaging, surgery, labor/delivery and physical therapy services. The facility also houses a cafeteria, laundry, chapel and other ancillary support areas, as well as a family practice clinic and specialty care clinic.
The design intention is for the facility’s image to be of quality healthcare in a friendly environment. This facility embraces a Planetree model of healthcare facility design focusing on healing the body, mind and spirit by personalizing, humanizing and demystifying the healthcare experience for patients and families.
On March 7, 2008, Melissa Memorial Hospital opened its doors to the public. The project totaled $12.5 million in construction costs.
