McCoy Stadium Renovation and Expansion
Pawtucket, Rhode Island
Heery, in joint venture, was hired under a design-build contract with the state of Rhode Island to renovate and expand this 1942-era baseball park, home of the Pawtucket Red Sox (PawSox) AAA farm team for the Boston Red Sox franchise. The stadium was modified and expanded to meet professional baseball and accessibility regulations, improve player and fan accommodations, and increase seating to 10,000. The 15-month design and construction process could not disrupt the stadiums use during the baseball season.
Fan-friendly features include enhanced sightlines for all patrons, new handrails and widened aisles throughout the stadium, and a conveniently located family restroom behind home plate. The renovation enhanced the traditional family and game-focused atmosphere by adding new opportunities for viewing the game from unexpected vantage points, such as the outfield berm and entry pavilion observation platforms. The project was a 2000 Design-Build Institute of America award winner.
In 2006, Heery provided design and project management services to assist in various maintenance projects. These included replacement of traffic coating systems, expansion joints and the stadium canopy roof.
