Lincoln University
Chester County, Pennsylvania
With alumni including Thurgood Marshall and Langston Hughes, Lincoln University, Americas first Historically Black University, is clearly a special place. Founded in 1854, Lincoln University is a nationally acclaimed institution of higher learning that provides liberal arts and sciences-based undergraduate and graduate degrees to meet the needs of students living in a highly technological and global society.
The university, with an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students, was in desperate need of an upgrade to its utility and infrastructure. Heery was retained to provide construction management services for a $23 million improvement program. The program included construction of a new sewer treatment plant, a new water tower, water, electrical and storm sewer upgrades, and boiler and steam distribution replacements.
The new systems were installed while the campus remained fully operational. The work was meticulously scheduled and staged to provide for the least disruption possible. Specific aspects of the program also included lighting system upgrades to increase efficiency and fire and security alarm replacements. The new fire alarm and security system provide for central monitoring and control by the university.
