General Electric Energy - Corporate Headquarters
Atlanta, Georgia
When GE Power Systems relocated their corporate headquarters from Schenectady, N.Y. to Atlanta, Ga., GE desired to change its corporate culture while strengthening its corporate image and brand. Shifting from an informal, not quite blue collar environment, to a more business environment is reflected not only in their well-appointed work space but also in a new professional dress code for GE employees. Furthering their cultural shift GE Power Systems ultimately changed their name to GE Energy.
Their space, now in a Class A building with all new furnishings, boasts pleasing neutral colors, indirect lighting and a flexible workspace environment where teams can work together. GE staff enjoys an abundance of conference/teaming rooms as well as impromptu meeting/breakout space amenities.
While the initial assignment was for 49,000 SF, Heery has, since 1997, provided programming, interior design and engineering services for more than 650,000 SF. Over the span of Heery’s relationship with GE, design services have included open plan work areas, private offices, an executive floor, a full service kitchen and cafeteria, a conference center including a small auditorium, a data center, a customer service center, and a non-standard office area for their E-Commerce group, their in-house web designers.
Some highlights of Heery’s work for GE include:
- Developed universal planning concept that provided the flexibility GE sought for short-term team groupings
- Maximized exterior views of Chattahoochee National Forest while enhancing the natural light and openness of each floor
- Enhanced Category 5 and fiber optic cabling introduced superior amenities at each workstation while new furnishings served as a “selling tool” to entice out-of-state employees to relocate
