Freddie Mac - Corporate Headquarters

Tysons Corner, Virginia

For more than 24 years, Heery International has assisted Freddie Mac with new construction, renovation and retrofitting projects. The relationship achieved its full promise with the successful design and construction of Freddie Mac’s McLean, Va., corporate campus. Utilizing a five-phase master plan that is currently comprised of four buildings, Freddie Mac consolidated all headquarters functions in one location. The campus grew, according to plan, over a 13-year period. By 2003, Freddie Mac completed Phase IV and had occupied more than 2.8 million SF of newly developed space. The Phase V parcel will be the final section of the corporate campus to be developed in the future.

The Freddie Mac buildings boast numerous high-tech features, such as two full floors of highly sophisticated trading areas, conference centers with the latest in audio/visual equipment, state-of-the-art computer rooms, and the technology infrastructure to support the 800-person IT department. Security and life safety are critical to Freddie Mac, and all facilities were designed with state-of-the-art security and fire safety systems.

Phases I, II, III, and IV were built in phases over 13 years in accordance with a master plan for the facility. Two of Heery’s key staff members—the original project manager and the construction executive—held leadership positions on the project team for all four phases, providing continuity that was very important to this owner.

For each of the four buildings, Heery provided full construction management services, including managing architect selection, authoring a management plan, providing energy analysis, design phase management, cost estimating, and on-site construction management.
