Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center

Fontana, California

The city of Fontana selected Heery to be construction manager for its new $42 million, 93,000 SF library and technology center, envisioned and designed to be a model of innovation and sustainability.

The building, completed in April 2008, is the city’s first public LEED certified structure, and achieved a prestigious LEED Gold designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. Among other sustainable design features, the building exceeds state of California Title 24 energy efficiency standards by nearly 20 percent, enabling it to achieve rigorous conservation standards set forth by the state’s Savings By Design Program. It also meets stringent LEED criteria for water conservation, recycled materials content, use of locally-sourced materials and indoor air quality.

In addition to the library’s vast collection, the facility also boasts an audiovisual center, historical museum, 350-seat auditorium, computer labs, career center, literacy center and 187-space parking garage beneath the library building.

Heery worked with the library to select the most appropriate Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology system to install in the library and safeguard the library’s most important assets – diverse and ever-evolving collections that meet the needs of equally diverse patrons.
