Denver Public Schools
Denver, Colorado
This $310 million program included more than 1,400 projects completed over a three-year time period. This involved scheduling and completing approximately 500 projects per year, most of which have been completed during the three month summer breaks.
The projects included new schools, historic renovations, remodels, additions, safety upgrades, boiler upgrades, roof replacements, new athletic fields, back-flow preventors, and many minor “deferred maintenance” types of projects.
Heery combined its program/project management experience in schools, with the general contractor expertise of Empire Construction and the mechanical/electrical project knowledge of AMI Mechanical. The joint venture (HEA) was formed to provide a team of people that would have a combined talent pool to manage the various types of projects that were involved in the scope of work.
Heerys EP&L group managed the furnishing phase of the construction program – meeting with school and district personnel to determine the new equipment necessary, tracking the equipment purchased and receiving and the installation of the new items.
Heery staff were stationed at all the schools that received furniture and equipment during the first phase (13 schools in two weeks) to verify that the required quantity of items were delivered, that each item was checked for correctness and damage, and that they were installed correctly and on schedule.
“Your team was composed of professionals who were very knowledgeable of design and construction processes. They ensured our timelines were met while maintaining quality. As project managers, they were our owners representatives and they consistently ensured the interests of DPS were always the first consideration.”
—Michael Langley, Former Executive Director, Denver Public Schools
