Dallas Independent School District
Dallas, Texas
Heery provided services to assess the condition of the 257 facilities for Dallas Independent School District (DISD). The surveys, which took nearly eight months, provided a space analysis of the district’s more than 18 million SF of instructional space. Teams of architects and engineers reviewed the facilities to determine what renovations were necessary. District administrators utilized the assessment to support the need for area voters to approve a bond package which funded the needed renovation and expansion projects.
In an earlier five-year program management assignment for Dallas Public School’s $275 million Capital Improvement Program, Heery successfully worked with three different superintendents, while simultaneously addressing budget and schedule challenges, as well as the logistics of the program. Over 75 separate bid packages were executed over the life of the program, grouping renovations and school upgrades together. At one point, eight new schools were being designed, constructed, and opened concurrently for a new school year.
Heery directed and oversaw the planning, design and construction of sixteen new schools, major building additions to eleven existing elementary schools, and comprehensive repairs and upgrades to over 180 additional schools and district facilities -- basically every facility in the district that had not been recently constructed.
