City of Baltimore - Department of Public Works
Baltimore, Maryland
Since 1974, Heery has continuously provided construction management services to the city beginning with the Baltimore City Public Schools and continuing through today with the city’s Department of Public Works. In 1979, Heery began working with the city on the Capital Improvement Grants Program. Since that time, Heery has managed nearly $1.5 billion in construction at the city’s two wastewater treatment plants, at its water facilities, and at utility improvement projects in various locations.
The department treats and distributes an average of 265 million gallons of water every day to 1.8 million people in the Baltimore metropolitan region. It maintains 3,100 miles of sanitary mains that deliver wastewater to two treatment plants at Back River and Patapsco. It is also responsible for 1,000 miles of storm drains and 33,000 storm water inlets. Its three reservoirs - Liberty, Loch Raven and Prettyboy - provide clean, safe water, as well as recreational activities in their surrounding watersheds.
Baltimore continues to upgrade and expand its existing wastewater treatment facilities to meet the water quality standards required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Maryland Department of the Environment to provide public sewer utility service to the citizens of the Baltimore metropolitan area.
