Heery International, in joint venture, was the design builder for a new $245.6 million Federal Correctional Institution in Berlin, New Hampshire. The medium security institution, which was one of the largest public works projects in New Hampshire’s history, will house approximately 1,688 inmates in three, four-story general housing units. Also within the secure compound are several single-story buildings for education/vocational training, health services, administrative services, personal services, maintenance, recreation and food services. The project was completed in 37 months despite several challenges including harsh weather conditions with record snowfalls, and the ability to attract qualified, skilled workers to the site’s remote location.
