Balfour Beatty - 999 Peachtree Street
Atlanta, Georgia
Balfour Beatty, Inc., a large construction company based in the United Kingdom, hired Heery to design its 9th floor offices at the 999 Peachtree Street building in Midtown Atlanta. The 7,924 SF space supports not only Balfour Beatty, Inc., but also Balfour Beatty Infrastructure and Balfour Beatty Rail. Design services included programming through construction administration, as well as the specification of new furniture. Balfour Beatty wanted to create an office where each division related as a whole, communicating a clear vision of who they are and focusing the design on a clean, more European aesthetic reflecting its London based headquarters.
Color composition throughout the space creates interest and balance to the impressive architecture and light. The intense blue found in the reception area echoes the blue of the company’s logo and is a striking contrast to the mixture of whites and creams found throughout the rest of the office. Balfour Beatty was very concerned about flexibility and expansion within the space as the company expanded and grew. The solution to this requirement came in the use of demountable partitions within all of the private offices and conference spaces. This allows the suite to be reconfigured as necessary to change as the company requires.
Corporate design is often about establishing a strong presence. Through the use of powerful architectural statements and a fresh use of color, Balfour Beatty certainly attained their desired image.
