Aberdeen Replacement High School

Aberdeen, Washington

Heery provided project management, cost estimating, schedule analysis and move management services for the $33 million, 237,000 SF Aberdeen High School replacement project which now allows the 9-12 high school to house 1,100 students.

The project included:
  • Joining the school structure with the existing gym to form a single building separated by a seismic joint.
  • 85 percent of the new high school foundation is supported on approximately 1,400 wooden piles driven to bed rock 15 to 85 feet below the site’s surface with the rest supported on a conventional spread footing/stem wall foundation system.
  • The structure has a 43,000 SF crawl space which was designed to elevate the southern end of the structure above a hundred year storm event or about 4.5 feet above the southern grade.
  • The new high school includes a large auto and wood shop, HVAC and Cisco technical center, and a radio station. A credit union was added to the building to teach interested students how a financial institution works and runs.

The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce awarded this project the Top Public Project in Washington State for 2005.
