More than one in three children in Wake County, North Carolina struggle with hunger. When members of the community learned of this staggering statistic, they came together to create a solution.
Heery Raleigh joined more than 300 volunteers from local businesses, schools and community organizations at Kerr Family YMCA’s Generosity Feeds meal packaging event to play an active role in helping to feed the hungry children of Wake County. Within moments of arriving at the Kerr YMCA gym, volunteers set out to divide and conquer, developing a system that worked best to achieve the day’s goal as efficiently as possible. Together, they accomplished their goal and packaged 10,000 meals in less than two hours.
Kerr Family YMCA’s Director of Volunteerism Jennifer Gleason was impressed to see a room full of strangers working together to reach a common goal.
“It’s amazing that the Y not only provides a place for us to do good in the community but also to meet new people and develop lasting friendships,” said Ms. Gleason.
Generosity Feeds, an initiative of the Replenish Community Foundation, is one of several charitable organizations and projects supported by the Heery International Foundation (HIF) each year. Exhibiting the theme of “Shaping Brighter Futures”, HIF engages in fundraising events to support local charities that promote the well-being of young people, safe and affordable housing for the poor and elderly, and the improvement of the environment.
