In March 2006, Heery acquired Dallas-based construction manager Charter Builders, specialists in construction management at risk services to the Texas K-12 school market. Charter Builders was founded in 1971 and has been twice named the Dallas AIA's Contractor of the Year, most recently in 2004. The 115-person firm has won numerous awards for project safety and quality in construction. Heery identified construction management at risk as an important service sector in the early 1990s and has consistently focused on the growth of this service within the company. The addition of Charter Builders is a major milestone in the firm's long-term strategy to deliver professional construction management at risk. Since the acquisition, Charter Builders has expanded into new market sectors, including design build, sports facilities and health care facilities. The entire leadership team remains with the group.
