Acquisitions

Sequeira & Gavarrete

In May 2007, Heery acquired Sequeira & Gavarrete, a 20-year-old Hispanic-owned firm with a significant portfolio of aviation projects at the Miami International Airport, including the $1.2 billion North Terminal Development and the $300 million Intermodal Center Rental Car Facility. Heery had previously identified South Florida as an ideal location for expansion because of both the growth in the area and the potential to service the Caribbean and Latin America from there.

S&G's motto, like Heery's, has long been "Do The Right Thing For The Client", a shared vision which forms the foundation for strong integration of the firms. Both firm leaders continue to lead their South Florida team. In addition, they have worked with other Heery offices to secure aviation-related projects and to supervise work that Heery already had secured in the Miami area.

JCM Group

JCM Group became part of the Heery family in January 2005. JCM Group was a 20-year-old award-winning construction program management firm in Southern California comprised of 100 professionals focused on healthcare, higher education and government projects. A hallmark of the firm was its client responsiveness, which is also a foundation of Heery International.

Heery had long identified Southern California as an important growth market for the company and believed this would best be accomplished by acquisition. In addition, higher education and healthcare are important long-term sectors in the company's plans. The combination of JCM Group's Southern California location and specialty expertise in the higher education and healthcare markets made it an excellent solution for achieving Heery's long-term strategic goals. Since the acquisition, JCM Group has leveraged Heery's expertise to help it expand into the justice and K-12 markets.

FPM, Facilities Planning & Management

Long Beach-based Facilities Planning & Management (FPM) became part of the Heery family in January 2005 along with JCM Group, of which it was part. The 20-year-old company's client roster included numerous distinguished companies, as well as such renowned institutions as The Salvation Army, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and California State University at Fullerton. The FPM addition added an important Southern California design presence to Heery's network of offices, facilitating our ability to handle nationwide, multi-site design assignments. The Long Beach office continues to be led by its co-founder.

Stratus

Stratus, a Los Angeles-based consulting firm, helps colleges and universities develop plans and strategies that lead to distinction and competitive advantage. Extremely client focused, Stratus advises colleges and universities on some of their most sensitive and transformational issues. Comprised of former college and university presidents and senior administrators, Stratus became part of the Heery family in January 2005, and continues to be led by its founding members.

Since that time, Stratus has been a crucial resource in Heery's emerging higher education practice, an important part of Heery's long-term marketing strategy. Heery's client-focused culture complements Stratus's approach, which allows for resource sharing and collaboration.

HLM Design

Heery International acquired the Iowa City, Philadelphia, Orlando and Denver offices of HLM Design in October 2004, enhancing Heery's existing healthcare and justice design studios with the talents and expertise of HLM Design's 100 professionals. Heery's long-term strategy identifies both healthcare and justice as strong markets and an integral part of the firm's future. As a leader in both healthcare and justice design and a firm with a strong client-centered approach, HLM Design was particularly aligned with Heery's own corporate culture and goals, making it a win-win for both companies.

Since the acquisition, HLM Design leaders have moved into senior management positions across the company, acting as area managers within their respective offices and holding positions on nationwide design committees in both healthcare and justice. The core leadership teams from HLM Design remain with their groups to this day.
